To Eddie’s Joy The Christmas Tree Burned

Our Christmas tree is now a pile of ash. Thankfully, it was out in the garden when it burned, and the burning was intentional.

Eddie’s favorite part of Christmas is not the lights, nor the parties, nor the candy, nor the presents, not even the church services (!). Eddie has proclaimed that his favorite part of Christmas is burning the Christmas tree.

He asked right after we set it up and decorated it when we would set it on fire. He has been very patient in waiting the 5 or so weeks since then.

Last night all the ornaments were taken off and packed away, and Mr. and I hauled the tree through the door and set it upright in the garden. (Then we vacuumed and swept up all the pine needles that had literally showered off of it.)

This morning, after calling 911 to alert the fire department, Mr. lit a lower branch and

FWHOOSH!!!! The tree became a burning inferno in 2 seconds flat! It was pretty amazing, and sobering (what if that had happened in our house?!).

So, goodbye tree. You brought me much joy throughout the past month. And you brought Eddie tons of joy this morning.
